Ways to Get Involved

Drivers – time commitment is flexible; generally weekday mornings or afternoons.

Do you have access to a vehicle? We need volunteers to pick up donations for our events, and to redistribute donations to other organizations and communities as needed. Sometimes we know about driving opportunities in advance, but we often send out a last minute need through our Google Group and/or WhatsApp.

Shoppers – 1-2 hours per event

Comfortable hitting the grocery store? We need volunteers to buy groceries for our events and drop them off at the beginning of the event or midway through (or both if you’re feeling extra generous). If you are in a place to purchase groceries on your own, that’s amazing! If you have the time and energy but not the funds, we can reimburse you for your purchases.

On-site Pantry Volunteers – 2-3 hours per event

Want to be hands-on at our events? We need volunteers on-site to help with a variety of tasks including loading/unloading supplies and donations, setting up tables and tents, organizing food for distribution, restocking products as items are distributed, greeting community members as they arrive, and more. While it’s not required, we often have a need for Spanish-speakers.

Fundraising – time commitment is flexible

Do you have a network of friends, family, and neighbors who could donate financially to support NSSN’s mission? We need volunteers to reach out to those networks to keep our work moving forward. Whether financial contributions are large or small, we rely on these contributions to stand in solidarity with our neighbors – on the Northwest side and beyond – to ensure they have access to the resources that they need.

Marketing and Communications – time commitment is flexible; at least 1 hour per week

Are you savvy with social media, graphic design, or website management? We need volunteers to help us get the word out about our work and opportunities to donate and volunteer. Whether you can commit to co-managing our social media accounts on an ongoing basis or want to help with a more short-term project, we can use your help.

Sustainability – time commitment is flexible

Are you interested in redirecting food/supply waste to better our environment and our community? Do you have connections to restaurants, grocery stores, etc.? Bring your connections and creative ideas to our sustainability efforts.

Volunteer Engagement – at least 2 hours a month

Enjoy making connections with other volunteers and helping them stay engaged? We need volunteers to do just that! From responding to volunteer inquiries, to orienting new volunteers to our work, to keeping our current volunteers engaged and accountable, we could use folks who can make an ongoing weekly commitment to keep our volunteer work on track.
